Perhaps the top reason people succumb to false doctrine or allow the lies of Satan to slowly permeate their thinking is this: we fail to grasp the battle we are engaged in. It is not a battle against people, ideologies or political parties...it has nothing to do with flesh and blood - it is a battle against God and the forces of evil that are trying to distort his ways in a fallen world. And they're sinister.
As the "god of this age" (2 Cor. 4:4), Satan is actively blinding people to the truth, all in an effort to make them miss the saving gospel of Jesus Christ. We need to counter that with a firm realization about the nature of our spiritual battle, a solid understanding of God's truth, and a commitment to biblical, critical thinking in a world that is actively trying to throw us off. We need to engage the right battle!
